KING CARNIVAL PARADE AFTER 10 O'CLOCK ON CHRISTMAS EVE There was a resuscitation oi the re- . cent discussion regarding the paradc of King Carnival in the streets o: Christmas Eve when the Rotorua Bor ough Council was considered thc .report of its Publicity and Amuse- ' ments Committee last evening. Cr. 0. H. Coleman entered a pro test against the committee's amend"ed suggestion that the parade shoulc „take place between 9.30 p.m. and 10 o'clock. " " He was strongly of the opinion tha: the parade should not take place beifore 10 o'clock. Business people in the town felt very strongly on this matter and were unanimous in theii contention that no rival attractions should be allowed to interfere with thc shopping. Cr. Coleman then moved that thc committee's report be amended tc ( make the time of the parade not earlier than 10 p.m. He was supported - by Crs. W. Galbraith and A. Smith. ' . Cr. E. T. Johnson said that thc •Publicity and Amusements Committee had met tljie shopkeepers as fai .•as possible. It had definitely cut ou1 any closing of streets and had de"ferred the time of the procession until after 9.30. It was not a great dis- - traction and would be a valuablc means of advertising the opening oi the carnival. . The Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) sup"ported Cr. Johnson. He thought thathe committee had endeavoured tc meet the business people. He did noi . think that the small parade proposed would be any disadvantage to the shopkeepers. In any case the carnival - drew people to the town to benefb • the shopkeepers, and what they losJ • on the swings, they made up on the roundabouts. On the amendment being put to thc meeting, it was car'ried on the voices
