USE OF SUPER

greatly stimulated If SUCCESS OF GOVERNMENT * SUBSIDY ALREADY PROVED STATEMENT BY MINISTER

-By Telegraph — Copyright.)

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. "A most satisfactory increase in the use of superphosphates has resulted from the payment of the Government subsidy," said the Hon. D. Jones, Minister of Agriculture, to-day. "The deliveries already effected and further shipments to the end of the current month are greatly in excess of the requisition originally received from manufacturers for the half-year from July to December, 1931-, while the requisitions for the period from January to June, 1932, have also been substantially increased. "The present indications are that deliveries for the current year will substantially exceed those of the year 1930-31, and will be approximately up to normal. The position, therefore, must be regarded as highly satisfactory, and it is apparent that the action of the Government in granting a subsidy of 11s per ton, coupled with a reduction in the price made by the manufactuers themselves, has had the desired effect in stimulating the nse of phosphatic fertilisers, which must have a very beneficial effect from the point. of view of securing an optimum production."
