FIRST ROTORUA TROOP

The weekly meeting of the Rotorua No. 1 Troop of Boy Scouts was held at their headquarters on Friday night, when 49 boys were present under Scoutmaster T. C. Hawkins. After roll call the troop proceeded to the Blue Bath, where swimming instruction and competitions were indulged in. The champion swimmer of the troop proved to be R. Purcell; junior boys, H. Pratt; neat dive, R. Purcell; first junior, T. Worthington. The patrol relay race was won by the Penguins. The troop is indebted to Mr. Bayfeild for the use of the Blue Bath and to Mr. McConnell, for his attendance. The troop will hold its last parade for the year next Friday night, when a demonstration will be given of the work done during the last three months, to which parents and others interested are cordially invited. Boys are asked to bring supper. The annual camp will be held at Maketu from January 1 to January 17. The camp will be in charge of the Rev. Mr. Benham, Scoutmaster of Opotiki, who is taking his troop to Maketu. As there are a number of boys who cannot afford to attend the camp, it is hoped that friends of the movement will help in this direction and so enable these boys to have a holiday at the seaside. The following local orders have been issued for the week ending December 18: Patrol on duty, "Fox," next for duty, "Lion."
