£7300 SHORT
LARGE AMOUNT MISSING FROM UNION SYDNEY, Thursday. The police have been called in by the executive of the Tramways' Union to investigate alleged defalcations in the union's funds, which are believed to amount to £7300, and an early arrest is expected. A special committee of inquiry has been investigating the question of the missing money for some time. i A report was placed before union officials to-day, and it was after the contents of this report had been announced that it was decided to take police action. It is understood that the losses have been mounting up over a period of many years, but they had been disguised so cleverly as to deceive the auditors. The first intimation that officials had of the state of affairs was the demand by the assistant-sec-retary (Mr. Brandt) for an indepen- | dent audit of the union's books. I It was this request which led to I the appointment of the committee of I inquiry. f
