SUMMER SCHOOL

ANNUAL GATHERING OF 200 TEACHERS AT WHANGAREI Arrangements are now being made for the teachers' annual summer school of instruction, which this season will be held at Whangarei, North Auckland, about the middle of January. It is anticipated about 200 teachers will attend. The summer school, which on this occasion will be under the presidency of Mr. D. M'Rae, principal of the Auckland Teachers' Training College, is organised solely by the teachers,' and not by the Education Department, nor the education boards. Its purpose is mainly cultural. Lectures are to be given on music and English literature, and some educationists of wide reputation will attend. A feature of the school will he the presence of Mr. M. P. Hansen, M.A.

LL.D., Director of Education m Victoria, and a member of the executive of the Australian Couneil of Educational Research, who will deliver a series of lectures on "Education and Leisure." For present indications it is anticipated by the organisers that the summer school on this occasion will be entirely successful — more so, it is believed, than its predecessor at Waimate last summer.
