AMATEUR ATHLETIC CLUB IIO LD SUCCESSFUL MEETING. LADIES' FIRST APPEARANCE .... A successful sports meeting was, held on Friday evening at the High School grounds under the auspices of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, a good crowd of enthusiasts witnessing some keenly . contested events. Despite the fact that very few entries were received from High School pupils owing to public examinations, good entries were received for all, events, which were run off with clockwork precision. C. Lillas, who was third in the second heat of the 100 yards handicap, was the ultimate winner in the final, his time off 10 yards being 9 4-5s. The ladies' handicap race over 75 yards atracted great interest and a good race resulted in favour of Miss B. Cottrell, who was closely followed by Miss R. Steele. A. Cottrell, whose best effort was 4ft lOin, won the high jump at 5ft 8ins, his handicap being 10 inches. The best jump of the evening (5ft' Oiin) was made by P. Taiapa. R. Dawson was the winner in the one mile handicap, gaining the decisipn by 50 yards from N. Hinton afs£er leading practically all the way. Three teams were entered for the mixed relay race, the A team (Misses Steele, A. Dodson, and H. Steele' and E. G. Guy) winning narrowly from the B team (Misses B. Cottrell' and J. Cottrell, and C. Cottrell and N. Gainsford). The final lap of this race was very exciting, E. G. Guy beating N. Gainsford by one yard. The only cycle race of the eveniilg, over a distance of 1 mile, was^-won by P. J. Isdale, Ngongotaha, on "Wednesday next, December 9, at noon. Events. 220 yards handicap; 100 yards ladies' handicap, 880 yards cycle race (roadster wheels only), "hopstep and jump, one mile handicap, two miles cycle race (roadster wheels only), ladies' relay race, men's -relay race.
