HIGH °SCHOOL, MAMAKU AND ALBION SECURE INNINGS VICTORIES FIRST CENTURY TO McGILL Three four-point wins were registered in the Rotorua Crieket Assoc-' iation's fourth series of matches completed on Saturday. The successful teams were Albion, Mamaku and High School, and some fine performances were recorded by I both batsmen and bowlers. ! The first century of the season was seeured by McGill, who carried his score from 71 runs to 106 before being caught out behind the .wickets ALBION DEFEATS CITY By compiling 245 runs for eight wickets in reply to City's first inning's score of 47 runs, and then dismissing their opponents a second time for 84 runs, Albion seeured a four-point win last Saturday. McGill, 71 not out, and Penno resumed Albion's .innings, and the seventh wicket partnership produced 50 runs before Penno was bowled for 23. Partnered by Webb, McGill went on to compile the first century of the season. With his score at 106 runs he cocked one up from Woodward and was caught by Mason behind the wickets. His innings, which was made up chiefly of good pull shots and off drives, included one six/and 14 fours. With McGill's dismissal Albion declared. Harding (12) and Hewson (40) were the only City batsmen to reach double figures in their second venture at the crease. Hewson batted very solidly, although he was given the benefit of a confident appeal for a catch behind the wickets shortly after he had reached double figures. Hanson and Devin carried on until the latter batsman was run out when 7, and the innings closed for 280 runs. With 213 runs required to avert an inning's defeat, Old Boys met a series of disasters, eight wickets falling for the small total of 26 runs. The ninth wicket partnership; however. managed to more than double this score, adding 34 runs, the chief scorer being Matthews, who at the end of the innings was not out with 21 runs to his credit; the only double figure score on his side. No further addition was made to the total, 'the innings closing for 60 runs, and thus giving Mamaku a four-point win by an innings and 153 runs. Reed and Faulkner, who bowled all but two overs throughout the mateh. were both difficult to score off, particularly Reed, who in ten overs, was credited with five maidens. INNINGS WIN TO HIGH SCHOOL High School, who the previous Saturday had one wicket down for 97 runs, continued their first innings against Ngongotaha, and with the addition of two runs lost Beale, who j

was run out after making a good knock for 43 runs. Hinton continued to bat solidly until his total was 48, when he put his leg in front of a ball from Emerali. Ngongotaha's first innings total was now passed, and the remaining batsmen sent the score along at a good pace, the last wicket putting on 42 runs. High School were all out for 230 runs, leaving Ngongotaha 105 runs to get to avoid an innings defeat. With six wickets down for 39 runs, any chance of the position being retrieved had vanished, and but for Dawson (35) and Ellis (26) the whole side would have been out for a very small total. The innings produced 102 runs, High School being successful in obtaining an outright win by an innings and three runs. A notable bowling performance was put up by Ryder, who, in ten overs, dismissed nine batsmen at a cost of 55 runs, " or 6.1 runs per wicket. Brooker in six overs had only 10 runs scored off him, but his bo.wling was erratic.
