no cause for anxiety states british chancellor no restrictions on trade
RUGBY, Thursday.. The confident tone of the press and other comment on the fall in the exchange value of the pound this, we&k found on echo to-day in the House of Commons when Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said he understood the weakness in exchange was primarily due to factors abroad which are not under our control, -;and coinciding with heavy seasonal demands for imports. He added: " I see no reason to view recent movements with apprehension." ! Mr. Chamberlain, replying to aj question, said no restrictions oper-j ated on the purchase of foreign ex-j change for normal trading purposes.j He was advised that the withdrawal of restrictions on speculative pur-j chases would "not assist the market in; the direction nbeded by traders.
