AUSTRALIAN JOURNALIST AND WIFE REACH PARIS DURBAN TO CAIRO BY MOTOR
-By Telegraph — Copyrie-ht").
Rec. Dec. 1, 5.5 p.m. PARIS, Monday. The Australian journalist, Luceus Connelly, and his wife have arrived in Paris. They reached Cairo on November 11 after a leisurely sight-see-ing journey of 54 days by motorcar from Durban. Mr and Mrs Connelly are the first motorists to traverse Africa from South to North and claim the transAfrican crossing record for economy in running costs, which totalled only £80. i Despite the use of an Egyptian guide, they lost themselves in the desert between Khartoum and Luxor; water became exhausted and only the condensers saved their lives; they later encountered 300 miles of swamp between Jube and Khartoum. When they were overdue the Government sent a camel corps on an all-night search. They even encountered lions on the veldt. i
