REHABILITATION
During the past few weeks much has been said and written about the rehabilitation of the Dominion's finances and industries and many. more or less magie formulae have heen offered as quick and easy means to its achievement. Among these currency inflation in one form or another, either under its triie colours, or wearing a disguise, has been frequently sugge^ted. The reply to the propounders of all sneh schemes is : There is no short cut to recovery from conditions such as the Dominion, in common with the rest of the world, is suffering from. There is only one road, and it is long and difficult, hard work ahd economy being the only certain methods of traversing it successfully. Fortunately for the Empire neither hard work nor economy are foreign to the British nature. They may, in the boom years since the war, have fallen somewhat into disfavour, but the inherent capacity of the race for both has not been weakened and once it is generally realised that they, and they only, will pull us- out of the morass into which we have stnmbled, a new and encouraging effort may confidently be expected from the whole community. Already there are signs in many directions of an awakening to the needs of the situation and helped by the effects of Great Britain's recent magnificent demonstration of her determination to tackle her own similar problems, steady, if not rapid, progress may be expected, with a progressive easing of the burden which all must in the meantime share.
