PARTY ALLEGIANCE

CONSISTENT.

(To the Editor). Sir, — The contention that every rteform vote not cast for Mr. Vaile is a vote for Labour is a sound one. Unless Mr. Clinkard receives a big Reform vote he cannot def eat Labour, whereas if Reform voters are true to their party, Mr. Vaile must win, and so not only does Rotorua return to its true allegiance, but also returns a Coalition supporter in Mr. Vaile. Mr. Vaile has been a stalwart in the Reform organisation for many years. When recently asked to contest the seat by the Country Party he replied he could not desert his party "Reform." He now stands as a Reform Coalition candidate. What is Mr. Clinkard's history ? First he sought endorsement a sa Labour candidate for Rotorua. Next we find him as a Liberal-Labour candidate. Again a Liberal (or United) candidate. Now he is a Coalition United candidate. It is quite impossible to forecast what his next allegiance will be. In face of such a history can any Reform supporter cast his vote to assist to put Mr. Clinkard in, in preference to Mr. Vaile. We know where Mr. Vaile stands and we know what we may expect from him, but how can you forsee what policy or party a candidate will support when he does not himself know where he will stand next time. Reformers be true to your colours! — I am. etc.
