RECORD ENTRIES FOR RACES ON WHICH * DRAWN RACING OFFICIALS PERTURBED
— By Telegraph — Copyright.)
Rec. Nov. 26, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Wednesday. One effect of the Irish sweepstalces is to unduly increase fields for the races on which the sweeps are drawn, perturbing race course ofiicials. Sporting writers suggest that the Joclcey Club should intervene. There are at least 43 runners in the Manchester November Handicap; 10 were removed in the final acceptances. This is a record field for this race, though eclipsed by the 66 in the Grand National of 1929. There may be 80 in that race in March, the next occasion on which the sweepstake is held. A number of horses would not have been included in the November Handicap but for the sweepstalces, resulting in unwieldliness, with a preponderating element of luck.
