SKELETON
COURT CONSIDERS CLAIM FOR £100 REWARD OFFERED. DEAD OR ALIVE? SYDNEY, Monday. Did the finding of the skeleton of a man who had been missing for over 14 months justify the payment of a reward of £100 alleged to have been offered to anyonc reporting his whereabouts? ■ That point was raised before Judge White to-dayin one of the most unlusual claims that has'. ever come before the District Cohrt. In August, 1929, Edgar Clifford Treloar, a city business . maji, disappeared from his home at Roseville. Some weeks later an announcement appeared in the Press stating that his father had decided to offer a reward of £100 to the person who reported his whereabouts. It was not until November 9, 1930, however, that any thing was heard of Treloar. On that day, Frank Gunner and Charles Harwood, residents of Balgowlah, while wandering about the bush on French's Forestry discovered a skeleton, which was later identified as. being that of the missing man. To-day, Gunner and Harwood sued William Tremayne Treloar, father of the deceased, claiming £100 for alleged breach of contract. "When I spoke to defendant about : the reward," said {Harwood, "he said, Tf you had found my son alive I would have honoured the reward'." Mr. Treloar, he said, paid them £3 10s. The def ence was" a denial that the plaintiffs had been promised a reward, and that the conditions necessary to entitle them to it were not fulfilled. The plamtiffs were non-suited.
