A Plains man was making merry at a dance the' other evening — the cause of the merriment was in his hip pocket — and as he wished to dance he found this a slight encumbrance (Says the Hauraki Plains Gazette). Being of a very trusting nature, he • removed the "encumbrance" from his pocket and handed it (a foolish thing to do at any time) to a stranger alongside him, saying: "Here, mate hold this while I have a dance." His "mate" was a policeman in plain clothes. (The curtain falls).
