ALLEGED DEMAND FOR MONEY TO PROCEED TRADING LICENCE ' FALSE PRETENCES ALLEGED
. — By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. Nov. 20, 9.55 p.m. SYDNEY, Friday. A charge of false pretences against George Supple, aged 59 years, and a prominent member of the Labour Party, is creating unusual interest owing to tbe fact that the names of two of Mr Lang's Ministers, Messrs. McGirr and Eli, are being brought into the proceedings. Evidence was given that Supple sought £150 from David Cragg as a reward for a licence for an animal boiling-down works in the residential suburb of Bankstown. A detective stated that while secreted under a table in Mr. Cragg's ' office he heard Supple ask for £150, i declaring that he could induce Mr McGirr, then Minister of Health to gran* the license. Later Mr Eli hecame Minister of Health and his name was drawn into the negotiations. ' Both Ministers emphatically deny authorising Supple to make any such ? offer. On the contrary, they were I entirely opposed to the noxious trade being carried on in Bankstown, despite which the Board of Health approved Cragg's application. The hearing was adjourned.
