TAKES YOUTH TO POLICE STATION ON ALLEGED THEFT CHARGE HAD BEEN SLEEPING OUT

HAMILTON, Friday. Allegedly caught in the act of stealing two tablets of chocolate from a Chinaman's shop in Victoria Street, near the Hood Street intersection, last evening, a youth of 17 years, Alfred Chadderton, was escorted to the Hamilton Police Station by the proprietor of the shop, Joe Leng. When Chadderton appeared before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M. in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court this morning, Senior-Ser-geant Sweeney made application for a remand to Monday, explaining that accused had left Auckland some six or seven weeks ago and had since been wandering around Hamilton and sleeping out. Inquiries would have to be made in Auckland. Accused was remanded until Monday.
