QUICK WORK

LINE CLEARED FOUR HOURS AFTER SMASIi EXAMINATION OF WRECKAGE HAMILTON, Thurs;. Inquiries made at the Frankton Junction Railway Station to-day show that the debris was cleared, and the line clear about four hours after the accident. There was an indescribable scene of piled wreckage and workmen toiled feverishly through the night;. Neither the driver (Mr. J. Keat), the guard (Mr. W. White), nor the fireman (Mr. W. D. Shephard), was injured. It was stated to-day that a broken axle on one of the trucks was not responsible for the crasli. The actual cause of the accident is not known, though departmental officials are on the spot examining the wreckage with the object of ascertaining this. There was only one transferenee of passengers necessary. Passengers by the mid-day express from Wellington alighted at Kio Kio and changed into the south-hound limited express from Auckland, which was blocked as a result of the derailment and turned hack. Similarly passengers from the Auckland train ehanged over into the Wellington train, which was also reversed. The ordinary limited express, which left Wellington at 7 p.m. last evening for Auckland, had a clear run through as the wreckage was removed by the time the train reached Kio Kio.
