MAN USES IRGN PIPE ON DRAPERS' PLATE GLASS ELDERLY RELIEF WORKER WELLINGTON, Thursday. Damage estimated! at over £200 was caused within a few seconds by a man who walked along Manners Street striking large plate glass windows of the premises of Messrs James Smith Ltd. with a plece of iron pipirjg early this evening. The man, an elder'y relief worker of shcrt staiure, feegan to waik along the firm's Manners Street frcntage striking the windows wvth a piece of galvanxsed ircn water piping about seven inches long and an inch in diameter, moving along toxvards Cuha -Street. He hit each window, sending long teniacle-like cracks across the glass with every blow. He had broken six windows and two show cases when a passerby dashed up and snatched the weapon from his hand. Police Sergeant Paine then came up and took the man into custody. All the windows had been specially dressed for the cotton exhibition which is to open to-day. The man will appear in the police court to-morrow. '
