A charming array of 200 Irish colleens dressed in fawn Harlequin costumes made an almost theatrical performance at the Plaza Ballroom, whefe ingenious machinery assisted them to mix 7,000,000 counterfoils eligible.for prizes totalling £2,000,000. The counterfoils are pllocated to units of 100,000 each of which has a first prize'.of £30,000, a secpnd of £15,000, and a third Of £10,000, fifty-three prizes each of £660, and the alsorans, 100 cash prizes of £100 each. Two miniature eleetric railways conveyed the truck loads of counterfoils to the mixey where an artifieial 100-mile-an-hour gale gave them the world's greatest shuffle. Armed troops gu'arded the doors throughout the night, the fire engines standing by. Dublin was almost crazy with excitement as the armed' lorries conveyed the counterfoils frpm the hospital headqUarters to the Plaza. Girls with flashing eyes threw flowers on the lorried, masses of chrysanthemums falling pn the rifles of the troops. Others let off fireworks and reieased streamers. The hotels are full . pf visitors and the theatres are holding gala nights, Dubliners are' too absorbed in the sweep to attend to business.
