THE LABOUR PARTY.

C. J

. TUCK.

To the Editor. ; Sir, — We are hearing a wonderful ;lot about the Labour Party just now and one is apt to wonder why ? Who or what is the Labour Party ? Tak•ing a line from Great Britain, where some of the wealthiest and most infiuential people are Labourites, one is led to assume that "Labour Party" is merely a name, given, no doubt, to x band of working men, in the first instance, who, struggling to eke out an existence and rear a family on — .as. Mr. Vaile proudly asserts — ten or twelve shillings a week, have seen the self-apparent, dog selfish economic system prevailing and decided, as they were human beings — not dogs or chattels — to endeavour to change the system. Hence, the name Labour Phrty. The name may be unfortun"£tte, but the humane intention underlyng the name is paramount. Any person who claims to have human "ihtelligence and instinct must realise .that the Labour Party's platfonn is ideal. ' " To say that the Labour administra;tions of other lands have been a „failure is, to my mind, the supreme „exaggeration of a biassed imagina',t:on. Can any human being prove that our present monetary system is humane? No, sir. A system that .allows one person to accumulate all the privileges and comforts of modern methods at the expense and discomfort hf his fellow man is dog selfish and inhuman. We pose as human beings and preach the brotherhood of .man, and yet act like dogs over a bone. .The misnamed Labour Party is supposed to be composed of agitators. Who was the first agitator we have record of? One who is praised by mill'ons of people throughout the 3yorld; one who preached the brotherhood of man. All down through the ages, reforms have been croated b.\ agitators. Every person who dis cusses on any subject with a view t-> the betterment of that subject is an agitator. The Labour Party, like the late Liberal Party. are striving for equality, equality in comfort. equality in sacrifice, and last but not least. eaual'tv in labour. — T am. otc..
