GOVERNMENT SENDS MEN TO RE-ESTABLISH COMMUNICATION EFFECTS OF CLOUDBURST

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Public Works Department has transf erred men to the Waimarino' district to re-establish communication with the Waipahi Manugatai area which was cut off by floods following a cloudburst on Thursday. It is estimated that 50 miles of roads are blocked or damaged.

The secretary o± the locai setuers associatibn telegraphed to the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates pointing out that the local body is unable to cope with the damage and it is impossible to get food supplies in. Mr. ' Coates immediately telegraphed to the^ Department authorising the expenditure of suffieient money to" meet the requirements of the district.
