FRENCH REPLY TO GERMAN PQCKET BATTLESH1PS END OF NINE YEAR HOLIDAY
-By Telegraph — Copyright.)
LONDON, Monday. The "Daily Telegraphs" naval expert says that France's reply to the German pocket battleship is a 26,000ton cruiser, which was included in the 1931 programme, instead of the 23,000-ton vessel already proposed. The larger size is due to the substitution of nine 13.4in guns, being practically equal to the British 15in guns. The new vessel will cost over £6,000,000. Its construction will mark the end of the battleship holiday, which has now lasted nearly nine years, as no ships of this class have been built since the Nelson and Rodney in 1922 by Great Britain.
