Rennie, the rider of Ruffles, was before the stewards charge'd with gross earelessness in the riding of his mount Mr. A. P. Wilson, stipendiary steward, told Rennie that he had the race won and simply gave it away. Rennie said that at the turn for home he was well cle-ar and thought it would be foolish to push hi$. mount, especially as Ruffles had a bad shoulder after his accident at Avondale. He admitted in answer to Mr. Wilson that he had the race won, but said that he never expected Ruby Dawn to come on as she did. The stewards regarded the case as one of gross earelessness and after considering suspension as a penalty decided to fine Rennie £10.
