MAMAKU'S SMALL SCORE The third series of matches in the Rotorua Cricket Association's competitions was. commenced on Saturday. Dull weather had the batsmen in difficulties owing to the bad light, and eventually play for the day had to he abandoned qwing to the CQmmencement of heavy rain which continued for the rest of the afternoon. High School Start Well High School commenced their match against City on Saturday and at the drawing of stumps on account of ra'n were in a good position, mainly due to the fine batting of Beale, who was undefeated with a score of 39 runs to his credit. The first wicket went early, Ryder being out leg before when the total was only four, but Hinton and Beale became associated and hy a good partnership took the score to 53 before Hinton was bowled by Woodward, who was keeping the batsmen quiet. Higgins was next, but went early and Hampson and Beale carried on until the game was adjourned! on account of rain the score then being three wickets for 70 runs. Scores : — HIGH SCHOOL.— First Innings Ryder, lbw b Harding 2 Hinton, b Woodward 15 Beale, not out 39 Higgins, b Godsalve 4 Hampson, not out 3> Extras 7 Total for three wickets 70 Ngongotaha v. Old Boys Early disaster was a feature of Ngongotaha's first innings against Old Boys the three first wickets falling for six runs but the rot was eventually stopped when Dawson and Pitts became associated and the score stood at 97 for five wickets when rain delayed play. i The partnersh'p between Dawson and Pitts was invaluable to Ngongotaha and both batsmen played good cricket. Owing to the wet hall the bowlers had little control of their deliveries in the latter part of the day's play and the score mounted in consequence. The match will he concluded next Saturday.
