RACING SENSATION
CROUPIER SEIZED INCIDENT AT CHRISTCHURCH CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. An unusual happening which eaused somewhat of a sensation occurred at the Riccarton raeeeourse this a£ternoon at the conelusion of the raee for the Stead Gold Cup, when Croup- I ier, who was racing in the colours of Mr. J. J. Corry, was seized. Mr. Corry made an attempt to prevent the horse being taken but was unsuccessful. He was advised by Po-lice-Inspector Cameron not to interfere as the man who had seized the horse had authority to do so from Mr. James Paterson, the well known breeder. The horse was returning to the boxes when a man took it by the head
and replaced its bridle with another. The man continued to hold the horse despite the protestations of the boy in attendance. Both the boy and Mr. Corry tried to prevent the horse being taken out of the gate hy appealing to the gatekeeper not to let it through. It is stated that the breeder of the horSe, Mr. J. Paterson, had given the anImal to Mr. Corry under a partner- I ship arrangement and as he had received no communieations for some time orders were issued for the horse to be seized. Racing as a two-year-old last season Croupier won the Cashmere Plate and the Longbeach Handicap at the Grand National meeting at Riccarton, carrying 9.2. He later won the Wanganui Guineas. At the Wellington spring meeting he won the Wainui Handicap and the Harcourt Cup, one mile and a quarter, run at weight-for-age.
