"WE WANT FRUIT"
There is a possibility of most of our fruit and vegetable crops failing, owing to thrip extending right over the country like an epidemic, writes a Sydney correspondent. The Go- | vernment is making the agricultural ' department work overtime with their [ experts, exp'erinlenting in sprays. So I far kerosene, hot water and soap is I the only remedy that has been ! thought out. But the point is this: ' When the Government decided that neither fruit nor vegetables:; — togetlier ; with other commodities and manufac1 tures — grown or produced in other qountries should be perniitted to come into this benign State, it hever thought that its calculations would be upset by a tiny insect. Now there is a vocal chorus ^houting into the Go- | vernment ear, "Go to the thrip, thou : boobs; -consider its Ways and be wise." I There will soon he a shont— like- the | bellowing of the bulls of Bashan, "We want fruit, we want vegetables."
