COUNCIL MEETING ENGINEER'S REPORT The monthly. meeting of the Rotorua County Council was held Wednesday. There were present, Cr. H. P. Ford (in the chair) and Crs. J. E. Martin, W. Smythe, R. Copeland Smith, and W. Steele. The engineer, Mr. T. S. Robertson, reported that the contractors ( would complete work on the Wairoa Road this week. Two hundred and forty two cubic yards of rhyolite had been put on the Tauranga Road during the month and 256 cubic yards had been put on from the junction of Kaharoa Road with the main highway. Unemployed labour would complete work on Raethel's Road this week, and work on Jackson's Road was also almost completed. Preparation of Steele's access road was practically finished and the work on Iles' Road also had practically concluded. Mrs Whitaker had sold one of her sections adjoining the Utuhina Stream and required access. She was prepared to pay £5 towards the cost and the new owners were prepared to do any carting necessary. The actual cost of providing this access, the engineer estimated would be about £9, as the majority of the work could be done by unemployed labour. A large washout had oecurred near Murphy's property on the Ngongotaha Valley Road at the beginning of October, and this had necessitated a big filling and a new wooden culvert. With regard to the construction of footpaths in Ngongotaha village the engineer estimated that the cost of this work in concrete would be £36 12s. Angles on Brett's Road at Rerewhakaitu had been defined. This road would necessitate the cutting of nine fences in approximately 1£ miles of road. The report was adopted and attention to various matters mentioned was left in the hands of the engineer. According to the monthly report presented by the County Treasurer (Mr. A. Bellingham), the' County fund was in crecfct to the extent of £1042 10s lld, and the loans account in credit £1569 ls 3d. General rates amounting to £1170 16s 4d had been collected since the last meeting. Arrears collected during the month were £54 11s 8d and special rates £772 2s lld. Accounts totalling £1267 4s were passed for payment, bringing the total expenditure for the current year up to £12,877 13s 3d.
