ARBITRATION COURT ORDER SHOULD BE REVISED TRAMWAY UNION CONTENTION

DUNEDIN, Thursday. The Arbitration Court to-day heard an application by the Dunedin tramway employees for exemption from the general order of the court involving a 10 per cent. cut in wages. The principal reason for the application was that as the tramway employees had always been excluded from the operations of the Court's pronouncements when such pronouncements effected an increase. in wages, they should also be excluded from the operations of the general order for a reduction. Mr. J. Robertson, president of the union, contended that the general qrder had not helped to improve the economic conditions of the country and as the latter is the chief consideration under the Finance Act, it should now reverse its policy. In order to bring about an improyement in the economic conditions; of the country it should restore the cut and thus assist business people and firms, he said. The Court reserved its decision. •
