WELLINGTON Wed. The date of the General Electio'ns was announced by the krime Miniister" the Rt.. Hoii. G. W. Forbes *.when the- House of Representatives ftiet. this morning, as Wednesday, Decemher 2. iWr. Forhes said that the writ would be issued bn Friday Noveinber 13 and the rolls would close at 6 p.mf. ori that day. * Nominations would be received up till hoori oh Friday, Noveihbef 20. TKe Maori elections, said the Prime Minister would take plaCe on Tuesday, Decemher 1, one day before the European elections. The Prime Minister also read a memorandum from the Clerk of Writs drawing attention to. the. fact that the rolls should. he altered after six o'clock of the day on which the writs were issued, adding that it was desirable that persons eligible to become electors 'should take ' immjediate steps to see that their nam(es were on the roll. The leader of the Opposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, asked if any arrangements had been. made for the utilisation of unemployed as poll clerks. Mr. Forbes said he had brought the matter "before the notice of "the Electoral Office and he was inf ormed that instructions had been issued that wherever possible positions as poll clerks should be made available to clerks who were out of ' work and that a good number had already been engaged. The date for the closing of -nominations for the Maori elections has been fixed as Monday, November 23.
