REMOTE ALLOWANCES

TEACHERS' PETITION REPORTED FAVOURABLY TO HOUSE "EACH CASE ON ITS MERITS" ("Post" Special Commissioner) WELLINGTON, Saturday. A favourable report was made to the House of Representatives to-day hy the Education Committee in respect of a petition by the president of the Educational Institute asking for the restoration of remote allowances to school teachers. The committee stated that it reeognised that some places which were formerly remote have now ceased to be so and for them remote allowances would not be justified, but as other pleaces were still remote the committee expressed the opinion that each case should be considered with a view to the payment of the allowance where justified. The committee therefore • recommended that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration and the House concurred.
