THE TWELVE SIX HARLEY SALOON
AUSTIN'S LATEST A CAR WHICH COMBINES POWER SPEED AND ECONOMY NOW IN ROTORUA Get in and take the wheel. Such power, such ease of driving. See those corrugations, they flow from under the wheels like water from the lceel of a boat. This is the new Austin six. We are driving the car that was called into being as the result of a widespread demand for a six-cylinder car embodying the virtues of power, speed, economy and comfort on the road. There is no troubl© about "tracking" with this Austin. She straddles the ruts and takes the bends with the ease of a car valued many hundreds of pounds more. An inspection by the motoring writer of the "Morning Post" of the model which Messrs. Fortune and Carruthers, the Rotorua agents, have just landed revealed many new and many pleasing f ehtures. Here is a car specifieally designed as a light six car to accommodate four persons. It had been subjected to lengthy and strehtious tests on some of the roughest roads in the country before it was offered to the public. • The engine and gearbox, f orming a unit, are'secured to the frame by hearer arms bolted upwards, consequently it 5s possible to remove the engine; and gearbox downwards with very little trouble. The cylinder block and the greater portion of the crankcase form a single casting. The cylinders have ample water eooling spaees around them, and an air cleaner prevents grit and dust being taken into the eiigine, which would cause i uhdue wear in the cylinders. The gear change is simple, the hand falls naturally on to the long lever, the clutch is light, and the brakes, which are -applied to all four wheels either by hand or foot, are smooth, progressive, and powerful. The ability of the engine to loiter along at little moive than five miles an hour, and to' accelerate smoothly and swiftly from 10 to 40 m.p.h. in 30 seconds, makes it an ideal car for the owner driver. The duties of maintenance have been lessened by the reduction of greasing points. For example, special zinc brushes of a rustless kind, packed with grease to last for a very long period, are used throughout the brake gear — there are Silentbloc brushes for the springs, all springs are interleaved with zinc — and there are only seven places where the grease gun is used, and they are very aceessible on the'front axle and steering. The petrol tanlc at the rear has a large filler and contains eight gallons ; petrol is fed to the carburetter by means of a petrol pump and the contents of the tank are recorded by a Telegage on the instrament hoard. Access to carburetter, petrol pump, oil filler distributor an*d batteries is unobstructed. A--The upholstery, in Motor Cloth of smart appearance aird'good wearing qualities, is deep and eomfortable. This is altogether a splendid model and will suit the mbst fastidious taste*
