CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. The New Zealand Cup Garnival of the Canterbury Jockey lub -was opened at Riccarton to-day in glorious weather before a large attendance. The course was in good order. He was challenged by Spearful and Admiral Drake who fought out a spirited battle in which Spearful prevailed by a neck.
