AUSTRALIAN CANDIDATES WIN IN BRITISH ELECTIONS A number of Australians, residenl in England, were successful in th( British general elections: Mr.' H. L. Boyee, re-elected foi Gloueester with an increase of 10,0 0C votes over the number he receivec at the last election, is a son of Mr, C. M. Boyce, of Boyce and - Boyce, Sydney solicitors. He is an Anzac, who served at Gallipoli, and after the wai* graduated at Oxford University. Sir. Newton Moore (Con-), at present in Sydney, who has inereased his majority in the Richmond seat by more than 15,000, was born at Bunbury, Western Australia, .in 1870,. and became Premier of the State, and later Agent-General. Mr. R. Purbick (Con.) re-eleeted for Walton j with an increase of nearly 15,000 'votes over the number which- he polled at the last election, was borfl in Melbourne, educated at the St Kilda Grammar Sehol, and after leaving Melbourne travelled widely in the course of his commereial career. Mr: W. P. Greene, Conservative memher for Worcestershire, since 1923, is a native of New South Wales and a son of the late Mr. George Greene, a.former M.L.C. He wias prominent as a land owner in the Greenfell distriet. Mr. B. Bracken (Con.), who has retained the Paddington North seat, is a Queenslander, who was educated in Sydney, and although only 30 years of age, has made a name for himsel'f in commercial and finaneial circles in London, He. is editor of "The Banker," chairman of Finaneial News, Ltd., and'managing director of 'Tbe Economist." Mr. L. W- Matters, Labour member for Kennington, who has suffered defeat, was an Adelaide journalist. He was a trooper in the Boer War, and a novelist. He recently returned from a visit to the Kara Sea territories in Siberia. Dr. Marton Phillips, member for Sunderland, is a doctor of economic science. She was born in Melbourne, where she graduated at the University.
