FORGED NOTES

CLEVER GANG BELIEVED TO BE AT WORK IN ENGLANp. MANCHESTER. Following the recent circulation of forged Treasury notes in the South of England, tradespeople in the North are now complaining that they have been similarly victimised. In several Lancashire towns, including Manchester, Bolton and Blackburn, a large number of cleverly forged notes have been passed, and it is believed that an expert gang are at work. The notes are excellent imitations, but the offieial watermark of Britannia on the left hand of the genuine notes is absent in the forgeries, and there is a peculiarity in the words "Chief Cashier." At banks throughout Lancashire special observation is being kept oh notes handed in, and the police authorities are making searching inquiries.
