COUPON TRADING BILL GOES THROUGH UPPER HOUSE

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Moving the committal of the Trading Coupons Bill in the Legislative Council, the leader of the Council (Sir James Parr) explained the provisions of the Bill. Hon. W. H. Mclntyre said he was opposed to the Bill. He felt that in the tobacco trade alone, the Government was going to lose a lot of revenue as the majority of the gifts were dutiable. A lot of revenue also came to the Post and Telegraph Department. A large number of girls would be thrown out of employment. Hon. D. Buddo said that Parliament was doing the right thing in dealing with the coupon problem. The Bill was committed, put through its remaining stages, and passed.
