DENTAL CLINIC

(Continued) treated, they would be carried througH to the fourth standard, but for the purposes of the establishment of a clinic, the nurses eould not undertake the treatment of both primers and standards in the first year. As Mr Elliott had said, for the purposes of treatment when the clinic was opened, the children above the third primer were "born too late." Ways and Means Before the motion was put to the meeting, ways and means of raising the money were discussed. Mr. Green stated that tiekets were at present being sold in Rotorua for a £100 Art Union to erect a football stand in Whangarei, and he thought that if an art union would be sanctioned for such a purpose, their own purpose could well be considered. He thought an art union would be an excellent way of raising the money. Mr. H: Wilkinson supported this idea but said that he thought that it would be very difficult to obtain the necessary permission. Mr. J. McDowell expressed the opinion that the best way to raise the money was to have a straight out cash drive. This had support from Mr. Jackson. If the money was raised by voluntary subscription, there could be no question that any one district had given more or less than its share. The opinion was expressed that the building would not cost as much as was set out in the departmental estimate. Timber was now considerably cheaper than it had been. The chairman said that he thought that this was possibly so, but if more money than was needed was raised, it could be used for maintenance or other costs in connection with the clinic. The motion was then put to the meeting and carried unanimously. After some further discussion, all present were constituted a general committee with power to add. Executive Committee 'The following executive committee was elected, the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson), chairman, Mr. A. T. Butt, secretary; Mr. C. A. Clarke, treasurer; Messrs B. M. Grene, D. M. MeMillan, W. Steele, P. Cronin, Dibley, Florey, and the Rev. Father Spierings. It was decided that four should constitute a quorum with the chairman,, secretary and treasurer ex officio. On the motion of Father Spierings, it was decided to ask each school committee interested to guarantee a proportion of the sum required pro rata. The proportion will be allocated according to roll number up to Std. 4, and as at November 2. In moving this motion, Father Spierings pcinted out that the earlier the Department was assured that the, money would be forthcoming, the less chance there would be of the offer being withdrawn. He thought that the raising of the actual cash might take some little time, whereas if some responsible persons guaranteed the amount on behalf of each committee, a guarantee for the full amount could be forwarded to the Dephrtment, and steps eould then be talcen to raise the money. In order to keep the Department apprised of the steps which are being taken, it was decided to write to the Auckland Education Board stating that a committee had been set up and that immediate steps were being taken to raise the necessary funds. Before the meeting closed, a vote of thanks to the Rotorua Primary School Committee for its work in initiating the movement, was carried by acclamation. i
