STRIKE DECfSION SYDNEY SEAMEN VOTE FOR EXTENSION OF HOLD-UP OTHER STATES STAND OUT
-By Telegraph— Copyriglit.)
Rec. Oct. 29, 8.15 p.m. SYDNEY, Thursday. At another mass meeting of the Sydney Seamen's Union to-day a motion sponsored by the militant seetion calling on all members employed in inter-State ships to cease work after 24 hours' notiee has been given, was carried. The decision involves every interState vessel and is believed to include the Ulimaroa, Niagara and Aorangi, also the ships controlled by the Burns Philp Company. The moderate section fought the motion, but were greatly outnumhered.. The meeting was not nearly so disorderly as the two previous meetings, owing to a numher banding together among the leaders of the various forees to restrain their followers from heckling and interruption. Shipping owners reeeived no response this afternoon when they called for crews for the Westralia, Ormiston, Macumba and Wear. A report has been reeeived at Adelaide that the local seamen will ig~ nore the Sydney decision for a general strike and aceordingly v/ill man all ships except the Canberra. Late this afternoon, the owners sent an ultimatum to the secretary of the Seamen's Union demanding that the crews should be supplied by to-morrow otherwise the owners would take steps to obtain crews wherever possible.
