UNPRECEDENTED VICTORY
SIATIONAL GOVERNMENT IN 3RITAIN GIVEN OVERWHELMING -MAJORITY PRIME MINISTER WINS SEAHAM LABOUR PARTY SUFFERS GREATEST DEFEAT IN HISTORY The indications of & sweeping victory for tlie National Government in the British General Elections given by the earliest retifrns, !have heen eonfirm'ed in a staggering manner. The latest figures available, with only seven returns to eome, show that the Government has been given the greatest majority for a1 century. The Conservatives have seeured approximately three-fourths of the total seats, chiefly at the expense of Labour, which has suffered an nnprecedented reverse, being for all practical purposes wiped out. Of its leaders, apart from those who supported the National Government only two survived the disaster. Mr. Ramsay MacDonald's victory at Seaham, where he had a most difficult fight, thrilled the whole nation and was looked upon as the miracle of the poll.
