WAGG DEFEATS DUNCAN FOR AMATEUR TITLE

CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. The amateur championship final was played to-day in fine weather. K .A. Wagg defeated A. D. Duncan 2 up and one. There were thrills at every hole. At the same time 'iieither of the players scored at his best, affected no doubt by the strain of the occasion. _ Wagg was inclined to be off the line with his long approaches, and lost strokes thereby. Duncan made many mistakes with the putter, and missed chances for halves and wins 011 the greens several times. At one time over 500 people were following the game, and the course marshals had a busy time. The course was still fast, though the approaches held better.
