HOLIDAY CRICKET
TE PUKE DISMISSEB CHEAPLY IN FIRST INNINGS GOOD BOWLlKG PERFORMANCES In the cricket match between Te Puke and Rotorua played at the Government G"counds' yesterday, Rotorua, after compiling" 123 runs in their first innings succeeded in disposing of their opponents for the meagre total of 29 runs in their first visit to the crease. The credit for this low score on the part of Te Puke must undoubtedly go to the two Rotorua bowlers, Lenihan and Reed who botli put up great performances and throughout the innings wefe very hard to score against. In one over towar'd the erid of the Te Puke first innings Lenihan succeeded in disposing*' of three batsmen with succ'essive balls, thereby doing the "hat trick." His figures read, six overs, six wickets, for eight runs, giving the fine average of 1.3 runs per wicket. F. Reed's figures were 6.5 overs, four wickets for 19 runs. Being compelled to "follow on," Te Puke made another bad start in their second innings, Montgomery being caught off the first ball of the innings and the next wicket falling when only six runs were on the board. However, the' third wicket partnership produced 70 runs, the batsmen being Rendall and D.are. These two kriocked the sting out of the l'Ocal' bowlirig and the following batsmen were enabled to take the score to 173 liefore the last wicket fell. With' 80 runs to get in 35 minutes Rotorua commenced their second innings at 5.55 p.m., and lost their first wicket in the opening over. The batsmen were out for a hit, but steady bowling b'y Delegar and Rendall kept them quiet and at stumps three wickets were down for 36 runs.
