MAMAKU DEFEAT NGONGOTAHA BY FIVE WICKETS
FOUR POINT WIN Continuing their second innings in the cricket match versus Ngongotaha last Saturday, Mamaku retained the advantage held by them at the conelusion of the first day's play and won the match by five wickets, thereby securing a four point win. The Mamaku not-out batsmen, F. Reed and A. Simons, continued their innigs at 3.30 p.m. McCardle opened the attack for Ngongotaha, but could not keep the batsmen quiet, 13 runs being knocked off his first over, most of which were scored by Simmons, who played some fine shots all round the wickets. After giving a dashing display for 31 runs, Simmons was caught and bowled by Beaumont, off the bowler's second ball. The bowler was again successful in the same over, Reed being caught in the slips. With seven runs required for a win, rain delayed play for some time, but the required runs were secured with the loss of one more wicket.
