MOBILE ARMY

BRITAIN'S MILITARY MOTORS As has been seen by those who have examined the transport equipment of the Australian Military Forces, motor vehicles are being utilised in many ways. In England this mechanising of the Army has proceeded to much greater lengths, the objects being to apply the lessons learned in the war and perfeet the mobility of the troops in the field. Much use is made of six-wheeled motor lorries, experiments having indicated that for carrying indispensible impedimenta of a divsion, vehicles of three tons capacity are most useful. Their outstanding features are that the vehicles themselves, while carrying large loads, occupy little more road space than do those of half their capacity, and there is little difference in the two lorries. At the annual manoeiivres at Aldershot in August, exhaustive experiments on a war footing were made by the First Division of the Imperial Army in tactical operations deploying for attack, defensive position, and withdrawal were all practically tested.
