BILL TO ENABLE EDUCATION BOARDS TO DISMISS WOMEN STATEMENT BY MINISTER
-By Telegraph— Copyright,)
WELLINGTON, Thursday Legislation will he promoted this session to enable Education Boards, at their discretion, to dispense with the services of married women in the teaching service where it is found that they have husbands who are in work. An announcement to this effect was made by the Minister of Education, the Hon. R. Masters, who stated that every case wonld be thoroughly inquired into before a decision was arrived at and no injustice would be done to any person. There were out of employment at present a very large number of school teachers whom it had cost the Government a eonsiderable sum to train and every opportunity would be afforded them to enter the service rather than retain married women teachers who already had sufficient income by reason of the fact that their husbands were in regular work and earning sufficient to maintain them. Mr. Masters added that the right to appeal would he included in the legislation.
