Meeting Postponed A meeting of the exeeutive committee of the Rotorua Beautifying Society had been called for to-night at 8 p.m., hut in view of the fact that to-night is ladies' night at the Rotorua Orphans' Club the meeting has been postponed nntil to-morrow at 8 p.m. Ladies' Night To-night is the Rotorua Orphans' Clnh's ladies' night, and members and their friends have, as usual, been keenly looking forward to the occasion. Ladies' night is deservedly one of the most popular annual functions held in Rotorua and this year promises to live fully up to its reputation. An excellent programme of song and story has been arranged. The Majestic Ballroom has been engaged for the occasion and the programme will he commenced promptly at 8 o'clock. Arrears of RatesThe Rotorua Borough Council last night received a letter from the secretary of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association enclosing a copy of a letter sent to the Prime Minister with reference to arrears of • rates on Crown property, and asking if the council would asist in this matter by bringing pressure to bear on its local member of Parliament. The matter was referred to the Finance Committee with power to act.
Electric Light Charges. The General Manager, Department of Tourists and Publicity, Industries and Commerce, advised the Rotorua Borough Council at last night's meeting that the matter of a reduction in electric light charges in Rotorua is again being brought before the Minister in Charge of the Department for | consideration. Work On Blue Baths. Satisfaction was expressed at last night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council when a letter was received from the Minister of Tourist j and Health Resorts advising that it j is the Government's intention to prof ceed with the construction of the Blue j Bath building in conformity with the ! original plans. The Minister added that the work was proceeding and would be completed as rapidly as financial circumstances would perm.it. Old Pupils' Association The exeeutive committee of the Rotorua High School Old Pupils' Association met on Tuesday evening to complete arrangements regarding trophies for old pupils' events. at the school sports. It was decided not to buy individual prizes for each event, but to secure cups to be competed for in the old pupils' and school relay race. It was also decided that the committee should hold meetings regularly on the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Surrey House, and that, in the absence of the president, Mr. A. R. Ryder, Mr. R. G. Webb be appointed to act as cliairman. After 1 the annual ball on October ^0 it is j hoped that flannel dances, parties, ! socials, ping pong evenings, etc., may be arranged in order to create a social fund of the Association. Work At Ohinemutu. The Rotorua Borough Council last evening. received a letter from the secretary of the Ohinemutu villagecommittee advising that a sythe and a lawn-mower were urgently required for work in the village. It was agreed to purchase a sythe and also a mower provided that the village committee was prepared to pay half of the cost dn connection with the latter purchase. Druids' Lodge Meeting The Loyal Rotorua Druids' Lodge, No. 7578, met in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday evening. The District Grand Master, Bro. R. T. Scott, and Bro. Davis, of Morrinsville, visited the Lodge, both being accorded the honours of the Order. Bro. Scott gave an interesting and instructional address on district work. After lodge, games and cards completed a most enjoyable evening. Boy Severs Artery in Foot A Maori boy, Heretini Tame, aged 15 years, a native of Whakarewarewa, was admitted to the King George Y. Hospital yesterday, suffering from a severed artery in his foot. He was reported last night to be progressing as favourably as could be expected.
