COMMUNISTS ROUTED

. — By Telegraph—

new guards' action striking seamen warned to return to duty firm challenge to soviet

(Press Assn. Q

-Copyright.)

SYDNEY, Monday. Several hundred members of the New Guard broke up a Communistic meeting at Bondi and routed the speakers, who were forced to seek police protection. j The platform was smashed to j pieces. Contending that Communist influences have taken control of the Seamen's Union, thus holding up ship[ping and threatening to paralyse industry, Colonel Campbell, leader of the New Guard, has warned the Reds 'that if settlement is not reached, definite action will he taken to ensure the full shipping services being resumed. The time had come when direct action must be met by direct action. "The New Guard to-day challenges the Soviet in Australia," he said. "As Mr. Lang and his Government in the State of New South Wales are making no move to prevent these lawless holdups, and the Prime Minister, Mr Scullin, has made no real effort to combat the Reds, the New Guard will. not stand by and see Australian industry butchered by Toreign agitators and Russian-paid emissaries. ■ "The position is clear: If action is necessary the New Guard will not be found inaetive. The present trouble strengthens the determination of the New Guard to have every Communist and sympathiser of Commpnism deported.
