! EPHIALTES WINS HANDICAP EMINENT'S FINE LANSDOWNE " ' MASTERTON, Saturday. . The weather is fine and the course- - in excellent order for the Masterton" Racing Club's one-day meeting. Eminent ran a very fine race in;' the Lansdowne Handicap. Coming from a had position at the top of the - Siiraight, he galloped in great style, ' to cut down the field and beat Pro--jection by a length. Cluny came very fast at the finish on the outside, and vas overhauling Projection. The Sun ran a fair race and was fourth. The Masterton handicap provided a splendid finish between Ephialtes and Spearful. In the straight the Thomond gelding took charge and came on in great style. Spearful put in a, strong challenge in the last thirty yards, and was just beaten by a short* ! head. The favourite, Kahikatoa, ran a fair race; and was fourth. Blaek j Mint ran poorly and Duellona, though ! third, did not impress as _a likely New ! Zealand Cup winner. The Lawn Handicap was an easy j thing for Joie De Val, who hopped away from a bunch in the straight, ! to win by three lengths.
