Every effort to avpid amputaj tion. was made by the medical m,en in charge of the case, but complications set in which finally made this unavoidable. Council By-EIection - A strong deputation waited upon Mr W. Galbraith, who fecently re.signed'from the Borough Council, and i urged that he should afiow himself i to be nominated as a candipafe at the by-election to be held . on 'Octoher , 28. After giving the deputation^ re- j presentatives careful coinsideration, Mr Galbraith consented and a nomination was aecordingly lod'ged with the returning officer yesterday.
