Mp, SCcBrine. stated that the board had requested him :to bxpress to the members of the various local committees which he visited the grateful appreti^fionLof' tHe; bo'ard'Tdf tjie wpnderful work being voluntarily earried out in the various centres. The board realised that it was only the
means of distribution of the funds available and that} thp buik of the work was being doxie by the local unemployment committees. He ref erred to the continued reduction in the amounts pvailable each week for work under No.5 scheme and gave the main reasons for the present position. The present, ,r egistrations of unemployed available for_worlc tofaRed over 51,000, which was considerably in excess of the numher anticipated, while the revdiiue available.5 was likely to be very much reduced if the present position continued. Briefly, ther.e wer^ 5i,p00jfnen fo b^.prpvi^ed with. work • and *the income ' ,of ' tke board was approximately £40,000 per week. The board regretted the necessity for rationing, but under the cireumstances it was quite unavoidable.
