TENNIS SEASON
ROTORUA CLUB'S OPENING DAY PROGRAMME DECldED TOURNAMENT AT CHRISTMAS 'A meeting of the management committee of the Rotorua Lawn Tennis Club was held on Monday night. The president, *Mr. W. A. McLean presided and there were also present Mesdames McLean, Guy and Noble and Messrs. ■ J. A. Fraser, A. J. Harron, C. A. Noble, and E. G. Guy. Advice was received from the Tourist Department that the club .courtg. would be available" for play on SatuT^ day, Octoher 31, and it was deeided to make" this the club'-s opening day. Invitations are to be sent to nearby clubs to be represented, and during the day a progressive tournament will be played. It was also deeided to hold the elub's annual tournament at Christmas time and preliminary arrangements are' now being put in hand. It was resolved to make hn early start with the ladder matches this season and new rules governing this competition are to be drafted. In connection with regular Saturday afternoon play, a recommenda-tion-was made to the match eommittee that a time limit be placed on sets and that two memhers of the committee be regponsible each Saturday for the regulation of play. The secretary advised that the Tourist Department had agreed to allow the club four courts for the season. On the motion of the chairman it was deeided to send a letter of appreciation to Miss M. Payton, one of the most prominent memhers of the club, who is shortly leaving the district. A vote of eondolence was passed to Mr. Norman Smith and Mr. Walter Smith, members of the club, who resently suffered a bereavement.
