LARGE CARGO OF BANANAS

— By Telegraph — Copyright.)

WELLINGTON, Wed. The Government steamer Maui Pomare arrived at Wellington from Niue Island to-day with a cargo of 8221 cases of Samoan bananas and 650 cases of bananas from Niue Island. The fruit is in excellent condition. This is the largest cargo of fruit the ship has brought from the Islands since the huricane which did so much damage there some months ago. Captain Bolton, master of the Maui Pomare, stated that the -Islands were recovering well from the effects of the hurricana, but Niue Island is now suffering from drought, and this is now having its effect on the fruit.
